Advanced Learner Loans are funded by the government to enable learners to enrol onto level 3 or 4 courses without having to pay a lump sum or a large upfront fee, meaning that learners can still benefit from studying a distance learning course without the initial cost.
If you are over 19 years of age and have been living in England for at least three years, it is likely that you will be eligible to take out an Advanced Learner Loan to support your online study. (You must be residing in England at the time of your application.)
If you are eligible for an Advanced Learner Loan and your application is successful, you will not begin to make the affordable repayments until the April after your course finishes, and only when you are earning over £27,295 per year.
While you might be thinking about applying for an Advanced Learner Loan, it is important that you consider your personal and financial circumstances before you do so. There are no credit checks needed, and if at any point you do earn over £27,295 per year, only 5% of this will be automatically deducted from your wage to make the repayments. The course you choose to study will have a set price, and this is the maximum loan amount you can apply for. The Skills Network will be able to confirm the cost of your course at the time of enquiry.
