Today at The Skills Network, we’re celebrating International Women’s Day and with 212 of our 315 strong workforce identifying as a woman, we know how important this day really is!

What is International Women’s Day?

International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the achievements of women across the world, whether that’s social, economic, cultural or political. The day also promotes gender equality, with groups around the world uniting to rally for women’s equality.

International Women’s Day is an important day to:

  1. Celebrate women's achievements
  2. Raise awareness about women's equality
  3. Lobby for accelerated gender parity
  4. Fundraise for female-focused charities

This year’s theme is #BreakTheBias, bias in this context refers to the ways that women are treated simply because they’re a woman.

How can you support International Women’s Day and #BreakTheBias?

  • Celebrate the achievements of women:

  • International Women’s Day is a great day to recognise and celebrate the achievements and accomplishments of a woman you know, so share your favourite stories and celebrate the women in your life today.

  • Wear the #IWD colours:

  • This year’s colours are purple, green and white so pop on the IWD colours to show your support!

  • Fundraise for female-focused charities:

  • Support a charity that helps empower and aid women throughout the world, an example is ActionAid. Action aid say they “stand with the courageous women speaking out for change”, you can find out more about ActionAid here.

With women now accounting for 47.7% of the global workforce, here at The Skills Network we’re proud that over half (67%) of our team consist of some pretty incredible women. Today we’re celebrating them and all the amazing women across the world!

“Here’s to strong women. May we know them. May we be them. May we raise them.”
