CACHE Essentials

This course, endorsed by CACHE, is exclusive to the market. UnIike other childcare courses, this is an innovative solution to refresh and update your employees’ skills in line with current legislation. This interactive and engaging online course features bespoke video content filmed on site in a nursery to make sure your staff relate the materials to their workplace environment.

CACHE Essentials is split into three zones which cover the following sections:

Zone 1: Child development in early years

Your employees will develop their understanding of the holistic stages of development of children and young people from birth to 19 years, including identifying the difference between the sequence of development and rate of development. They will also look at how to monitor children and young people’s development using different methods and will increase your employees’ knowledge of factors affecting development. Finally, your employees will increase their knowledge of the importance of play opportunities for children and young people. They will also explore the national curriculum and discover how to plan for the Early Years Foundation Stage.

Zone 2: Engaging with the requirements of statutory frameworks in relation to safeguarding and welfare

This zone will ensure your employees are fully aware of the following legislation:

  • The Childcare Act 2006
  • Statutory framework for the early years foundation stage (2017)
  • The Equality Act 2010
  • Keeping Children Safe in Education 2015
  • Working Together to Safeguard Children 2015
  • The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNRC) 1989.
  • This zone will also expand upon your employees’ knowledge of the definitions of ‘safeguarding’ and ‘welfare’. Your staff will discover how to identify signs and symptoms of common childhood illnesses and what actions to take when children or young people are ill or injured. This zone also highlights the potential signs and indicators of abuse and what actions to take in response to evidence or concerns that a child or young person is at risk of abuse.

Zone 3: Creating a positive environment

This zone covers working with parents and carers, including how to appropriately meet and greet children and parents/carers and the importance of sharing concerns with parents. Your employees will also discover what ‘transition’ is in relation to children, and the importance of liaising with parents/carers and others to ensure the child is supported prior to, during and following transition. Finally, your employees will develop their knowledge of how to role model exemplary behaviour and understand the importance of being ‘child-centred’.
