Nutrition, Health and Food Awareness in the Hospitality Sector

This course will provide learners with crucial nutrition, health and food awareness knowledge, including the best methods of preventing cross-contamination, how to safely operate within a food preparation environment within the hospitality sector, and the principles of healthy eating. By completing this course, learners will also discover how to identify the characteristics of stress and anxiety and how to manage them.
Upon completion of one of our hospitality and catering courses, your learners could progress on to further courses such as the Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Nutrition and Health.
Unit 1: Consider nutritional needs of a variety of individuals
This unit will provide your learners with an understanding of how nutritional needs vary with age. They will develop their knowledge of the special dietary requirements of vegetarians, individuals with certain religious beliefs and those with allergies. Your learners will also gain an awareness of the factors that create barriers to healthy eating.
Unit 2: Explore the principles of healthy eating
Within this unit your learners will develop their understanding of how diet affects a person’s health. They will go on to consider how the five food groups contribute to a healthy diet, as well as the roles of different nutrients in maintaining health. This unit also provides learners with an understanding of healthy food preparation.
Unit 3: Understanding stress
Here your learners will gain an understanding of stress and its causes. They will develop an appreciation of what stress can feel like, and the symptoms that may be experienced by individuals. This unit also covers the variety of ways in which stress can be managed.
Unit 4: Understanding anxiety
Throughout this unit your learners will explore anxiety and its causes by considering what anxiety can feel like for an individual, and the symptoms that may be experienced. They will discover the different methods used for managing and treating anxiety, and gain an understanding of the roles and needs of an individual’s family and friends.
Unit 5: Principles of equality and diversity in the workplace
This unit will provide your learners with a thorough understanding of the standards and expectations regarding equality and diversity in the workplace, with reference to current relevant legislation.
