TSN Announces Training Contract with Trades Union Congress (TUC)

Details: Written by Benjamin Atkinson |

The Skills Network is delighted to announce that we have secured a national training contract with Unionlearn and the Trades Union Congress (TUC), to become the preferred provider of funded distance learning qualifications to over 50 trade unions in the UK.

The TUC are the national federation of trade unions in England and Wales, representing over 5.6 million members and 57 unions. This includes key unions such as UNISON and GMB Union.

We will be working with Unionlearn, the learning and skills organisation arm of the TUC, to provide all TUC union members with online access to fully funded Adult Education Budget (AEB) level 2 distance learning courses.

Through this, TUC members can realise their learning and professional development goals, with funded access to industry standard qualifications.

TUC members can upskill in a wide range of subject areas. Level 2 qualifications include:

  • Digital Skills
  • Event Planning
  • Equality and Diversity
  • Principles of Team Leading
  • Understanding Nutrition and Health
  • Awareness of Mental Health Problems
  • Understanding Specific Learning Difficulties
  • Awareness of Bullying in Children and Young People
  • Understanding Children and Young People’s Mental Health.

Distance learning courses can be studied anytime, anywhere – making them ideal for flexible staff training.

TUC members will benefit from engaging online learning content, including video tutorials, interactive case studies, gamification learning, summary sections and even Augmented Reality (AR) learning experiences – all facilitated by our online learning platform, ‘EQUAL’. Learning will also be underpinned by additional guidance from subject specialist distance learning Tutors.

The TUC contract coincides with The Skills Network’s continued success of delivering AEB funded training to unions such as Unite The Union, The Communications Workers Union (CWU) and AEGIS. Last year, we proudly enabled 500 union members to further their professional development.

Our AEB funding that facilitates this training derives from our network of sub-contracted funding partnerships with over 40 colleges in the UK.

James Earl, Executive Sales Director at The Skills Network, said:

“We’re extremely proud to be building on the brilliant work we have achieved in enabling trade unions access to funded training, and providing real, flexible, lifelong professional learning opportunities to union members.

We’re thoroughly delighted to have launched this significant project with the UK’s largest trade union federation, the Trades Union Congress (TUC). This partnership is a real milestone for The Skills Network, as we have been supporting trade unions for over a decade now.

We believe we’re going to make a real difference in allowing TUC unions to access funded training in leading areas such as mental health.”
