Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of Care Planning

This qualification aims to help learners understand their role in supporting the preferences and needs of individuals in relation to their care or support, the development and implementation of care plans, and how to review care plans by observing and monitoring the care activities your employee is responsible for. This qualification is the perfect platform to then look to study higher level nursing qualifications.

Unit 1: Understanding person-centred thinking and planning

In this unit your employee will be introduced to the principles and practice of person-centred thinking, planning and reviews. Your employee will be able to identify the beliefs and values on which person-centred thinking and planning is based, the difference that person-centred thinking can make to individuals and their families and current legislation regarding person-centred thinking and planning.

Unit 2: Care planning for the care worker

Within this unit, your employee will be able to identify the role of each person in the care planning process, outline the rights of the individual and their carers in relation to assessment and describe conflicts that may arise during the assessment process.

Unit 3: Understanding nutrition and hydration in health and social care

This unit will provide your employee with an understanding of how to plan a balanced diet in health and social care settings, the impact of poor diet on health and well-being and how to identify risk factors which may lead to malnutrition.

Unit 4: Principles of supporting an individual to maintain personal hygiene

Within this unit, your employee will understand the effects of poor personal hygiene on health and well-being and how to encourage and support an individual to maintain personal hygiene.

Unit 5: Understanding continence care

This unit will provide your employee with an understanding of the body’s waste functions, the reasons for incontinence, and the various facilities and aids for continence care.

Unit 6: Principles of supporting sleep

In this unit, your employee will understand the importance of sleep, how to establish conditions suitable for sleep and how to access information and advice about difficulties with sleep.

  • Not be a current learner with The Skills Network or another provider
