This qualification aims to develop your learners’ knowledge of end of life care. They will learn about the different attitudes and emotive issues surrounding death and dying, communication, assessment and care planning and person-centred approaches in relation to end of life care and care during the final hours of life, including bereavement care.

Unit 1: Understanding end of life care

In this unit, your learners will look at some of the attitudes and emotive issues surrounding death and dying as well as current approaches to end of life care and the support services that are available.

Unit 2: Communication during end of life care

Within this unit, your learners will look at different communication skills required for end of life care. They will also look at potential barriers to communication and how to overcome these.

Unit 3: Assessment and care planning in end of life care

This unit will introduce your learners to the holistic approach and the person-centred approach to assessment and care planning for end of life care.

Unit 4: Person-centred approaches to end of life care

In this unit, your learners will explore the person-centred approach to end of life care by looking at how to support the psychological, social, spiritual, religious, cultural and emotional needs of an individual.

Unit 5: Care during the final hours of life and bereavement care

This sections covers the approach to death and the final hours of care, the process of grief and loss. Your learners will learn how to support people following bereavement and how to deal with their own feelings of grief.
