Unit 1: Understand how to work in end of life care
This unit helps the learner understand different attitudes to death and dying, the varying approaches (and their individual aims), to end of life care, and the support services available to people undertaking such a role.
Unit 2: Care planning in end of life care
Learners will gain an understanding of the holistic approach to end of life care, person-centred assessment and care planning considering the many needs of individuals nearing the end of life.
Unit 3: Understand how to provide support to manage pain and discomfort
This unit covers the knowledge and skills required in order to provide support for managing pain and discomfort. This includes how to minimise pain through a range of different techniques and the approaches to managing pain.
Unit 4: End of life care and dementia
Learners will gain an acute awareness of the impact dementia can have on an individual's end of life care and will also learn how to support those individuals, as well as their family and close friends.
Unit 5: Understanding the role of the care worker in time of death
This unit explores the role of a care worker around the time of death of an individual. Focusing primarily on how to support an individual, how to care for a deceased individual and existing legislation around this subject are all examined in this module.
Unit 6: Understand loss and grief in end of life care
Learners will consider the complex nature of loss and grief, gaining an understanding of how to support people following bereavement and how to best manage their feelings of loss and grief.
Paper-based Online Assessments
Does the qualification expire?
No. Once you complete a course, you will gain a nationally recognised qualification which lasts forever and will be beneficial to you throughout your entire working career.
Is there a time limit or any deadlines?
There are no strict deadlines for you to meet within your course, but we will suggest targets for you to aim towards to encourage you with your study in order for you to complete within a minimum of 16 weeks. You will be reminded of this throughout your course from your Assessor and Learner Support Advisor, and should try to meet these targets when submitting your assessments and working towards different outcomes.
Do I need any computer skills?
You only need very basic skills to complete a course. If you do any shopping online or use any social media websites, then you will find our online learning platform, EQUAL, very easy to use. Even if you do not regularly use a computer, as long as you know how to turn it on and access the internet, the helpful guides and videos on EQUAL will provide you with all the help you need to get started online.
Do I need a computer to take the course?
If you are taking the course online, you will need a computer to access your emails and for online learning. If you are set to complete the course paper-based, you will not need computer.
Do I need to buy anything else to go with the course?
No. As long as you have a working computer, a pen and some paper, you will have no problems completing a course with us. If you complete an online course, all the resources you need will be accessible online, and if you complete a paper-based course or paper-based course with online assessments, we will send you everything you need in the post and via email.
What is in the course content?
Each course covers a particular area of study through a detailed exploration of the subject matter. This includes subject specific case studies, thought provoking activities, further research tasks, key facts, summary pages and ‘Stop and Think’ sections, where learners are encouraged to consider how the learning content may mirror reality.
Is the course paper-based or online?
This course is available as paper-based or paper-based learning with online assessments.
What level is the course at and what does this mean?
This is a Level 2 course, which is equivalent to a GCSE level qualification. If you successfully complete your course, you can progress on to the next level of study in your chosen subject area if you wish. Certificates are nationally recognised and will be issued to learners once you have successfully completed your course.
How much is the course and when do I pay?
The course costs £225, which includes all of the learning resources and materials you will need to complete the course, it also includes the cost of registration and certification with the awarding body. You can either pay for the course in full in a single payment, which is required before you begin your study, or start a course using our flexible payment plans. How am I assessed?
You will be assessed throughout your study by a series of short answer assessment questions which are built into the course. If you complete the qualification online, your answers are automatically saved and are available for you to revise and edit at any point before submission.
Are there any exams?
No. This course does not involve any examinations, and learners are assessed entirely through their answers to the assessment questions, which they complete throughout the course.
What will I gain from completing a course?

What happens if I fail an assessment?
Your assessor will work with you to ensure you have full support in order to complete and achieve all required outcomes to gain the qualification, and this will ensure that you will gain the qualification if you are committed to it.
How long will my certificate take to arrive?
Your certificate will take between six and eight weeks to arrive. Once you complete the course and submit your final piece of work, your assessments will be marked and your work will go through an external moderation process. Once this process is complete, we send your certificate to you as soon as possible.
How can I progress after I complete the course?
Once you complete a course with us, your opportunities are endless. Not only will your employment opportunities improve, but you could also progress on to other areas of study. You may find that with specific courses, you can transfer the accumulation of credits onto another qualification. Learners who have already achieved one or more of the units included in a specific qualification can transfer the credit already achieved onto another in some instances, if the units are the same. This is because the units are listed on the Qualifications Credit Framework, allowing credit transfer to take place. This is most useful if you are progressing on to an NVQ or apprenticeship scheme.
