Level 2 AAT Foundation Certificate in Accounting

Unlike other online accounting courses, this qualification will prepare your employees for junior and entry level accounting roles by developing a solid foundation in finance administration. Your employees will gain practical accounting and finance skills, such as recording financial transactions using double entry bookkeeping, reconciling a bank statement to the cash book, journal adjustments and basic costing principles.

Unit 1: Bookkeeping transactions

In this unit, your employees will learn about double entry bookkeeping and its associated documents and processes. They will gain an understanding of financial transactions within a bookkeeping system, as well as the processing of customer transactions, supplier transactions and receipts and payments. Your employees will also gain an understanding of processing transactions through the ledgers to the trial balance.

Unit 2: Bookkeeping controls

Within this unit, your employees will learn to understand payment methods, controls in a bookkeeping system and control accounts. This unit will also provide your employees with an understanding of using the journal and how to reconcile a bank statement with the cash book.

Unit 3: Elements of costing

In this unit, your employees will gain an understanding of the cost recording system within an organisation, how to use cost recording techniques and provide information on actual and budgeted costs and income.

Unit 4: Using accounting software

All learning resources for this unit are provided by Sage and your employees will log into the external software to work through this. Your employees will achieve a Sage 50 certificate upon completion.

Unit 5: Work effectively in finance

Within this unit, your employees will be introduced to the Foundation Synoptic Assessment (FYSA) and will be provided with an understanding of the finance function within an organisation, using personal skills development in finance, producing work effectively and understanding corporate social responsibility (CSR), ethics and sustainability within organisations.

Unit 6: Additional synoptic assessment preparation unit

Your employees are also given an additional bonus revision unit to prepare for the synoptic assessment. This additional unit includes revision sections for the key topics in Units 1, 2 and 3. This unit is built to give your employees an indication as to which areas need to be further revised and will help to identify learners' strengths and weaknesses.

"The courses have given me so much more competence, and confidence too!"

I was persuaded by my father to seriously consider the line of accountancy work for a more secure future. I knew would open a lot of doors to different job opportunities in the future. I chose The Skills Network because one of my colleagues had previously used The Skills Network and highly recommended them. I also read many positive reviews.
I found that AAT provides a fantastic alternative to achieve an elite accounting qualification that is recognised by employers and provides you with invaluable knowledge of the industry. I also knew that by studying and achieving the AAT qualifications, I could continue my studies towards the ACA qualification and gain chartered status.
The simplicity of the level 2 and 3 courses has really given me so much more competence, and confidence too. The more I learn with AAT, the more I understand about the accountant’s role. I’d have to say I give it five stars! The online learning system- EQUAL is brilliant, with all the units and breakdown of sections, is really clear and easy.

"Studying AAT has helped me to grasp concepts at work so much quicker"

I wanted to study AAT qualifications due to the national recognition of the qualification and the building blocks it forms for you to eventually study for chartered status, if that is what you want to do. I chose The Skills Network because one of my colleagues had previously used the company and highly recommended it. I also read many positive reviews
Studying AAT alongside working in a finance role has helped me to grasp concepts at work so much quicker, and I am able to carry out tasks with a lot more ease than if I hadn’t learnt the AAT content
The online learning system, ‘EQUAL’, is brilliant − the interactive slides are good, and I really like how each slide isn’t crammed with information. It is all very neatly presented and easy to understand.
