Job Search and Employability Skills

The Job Search and Employability Skills course has been created to help learners who are looking for work, or to develop their skill set. The course will enable learners to develop skills required to seek employment, identify realistic job goals and gain an understanding of which skills enable personal development.

This course is split into manageable units. These are:

Unit 1: Preparing to achieve own job goals

This unit helps learners identify achievable job goals and recognise their own skills and qualities that are relevant to the workplace.

Unit 2: Promoting yourself and preparing for a job interview

This unit explains how to: tailor your CV to certain sectors, search and apply for jobs, prepare for an interview and review your performance after an interview.

Unit 3: Presenting yourself

Learners will look at the different ways they need to present themselves in the workplace, such as in person, on paper, on the telephone or electronically.

Unit 4: Dealing with your first days at work

This unit explains how to make a positive first impression in the workplace and provides an understanding of the induction process and where to find further support or advice at work.

Unit 5: Working in a team

This unit examines what it means to be a team player by covering the interpersonal skills needed when working in a team and how to resolve issues to achieve team goals.

Unit 6: Managing your time

This unit introduces time management and explains how to identify priorities so that work can be planned effectively.

Unit 7: Following instructions

Learners will explore the different types of instructions they might have to follow in the workplace and learn how to deal with situations where it is inappropriate or unsafe to follow instructions.

Unit 8: Setting your targets

This unit covers target setting in the workplace and how this forms a part of the appraisal system.
