Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of End of Life Care

This qualification aims to develop your learners’ knowledge and skills of the care of patients approaching the end of life, as well as how to support friends and families at this sensitive time. This course contains six units which cover how to work in end of life care, care planning in end of life care, how to provide support to manage pain and discomfort, end of life care and dementia, understanding the role of the care worker in time of death and understanding loss and grief in end of life care.
Upon completion of our end of life level 2 course, your learners could progress on to study our Level 3 Certificate in the Principles of End of Life Care.
Unit 1: Understand how to work in end of life care
In this unit your learners will learn about different attitudes to death and dying, the aims of and approaches to end of life care and the support services that are available for this.
Unit 2: Care planning in end of life care
Within this unit your learners will gain an understanding of the holistic approach to end of life care, how to make a person-centred assessment and care planning which considers the needs of individuals nearing the end of life.
Unit 3: Understand how to provide support to manage pain and discomfort
This unit will provide your learners with the knowledge and skills they need to provide support for managing pain and discomfort. This includes how to minimise pain and the approaches to managing pain.
Unit 4: End of life care and dementia
In this unit your learners will gain an awareness of the impact that dementia can have on an individual’s end of life care. They will learn how to support those individuals and their family and friends.
Unit 5: Understanding the role of the care worker in time of death
This unit explores the role of a care worker around the time of death of an individual. Your learners will learn how to support an individual, how to care for a deceased individual and the legislation surrounding this.
Unit 6: Understand loss and grief in end of life care
In this unit your learners will look at the process of loss and grief and gain an understanding of how to support people following bereavement and how to manage their own feelings of loss and grief.
